Trilogy 968 Stereo Valve Amplifier

The 968 is the distillation of 25 years of audio valve amplifier design experience. But this amplifier is no throwback. Innovative materials and technologies means the 968 is bang up to date. It offers real speed and the superb tonal and dynamic expression you can expect of a Trilogy amplifier.

The output stage is extremely flexible, enabling you to match your mood and chosen loudspeaker. The amplifier can be configured to use EL34s or KT88s through your dealer. Triode or pentode operation is user selectable from the front panel at any time.

As a conduit for making beautiful music, the 968 is simply bewitching. The palpable 'reach out and touch' quality, which is our hallmark, will seduce you time and time again.

Chameleon Colour System LogoStandard finish is a soft, finely bead blasted natural aluminum. You can also choose one of our five lustrous paint finishes at extra cost, or take advantage of the Chameleon Colour System which opens up a whole new dimension of possibilities.

Technical Details:

968 internal detailThe driver stage is unusual in employing a pure differential topology. It has its own transformer winding and shunt regulated power supply for maximum stability and resolution. The output stage can be specified with KT88s for punch and power or EL34s for a subtle bias towards sweetness and refinement. Configuring each channel differently for biamping applications is possible through your Trilogy dealer.

Reliability and ease of use are key features of the 968.

Output tube bias adjustment is set by equalising the brightness of two LEDs from the front panel. In the unlikely event of a power tube failure the monitoring will shut the amplifier down and an LED will indicate the faulty tube's position.

Output transformer design is perhaps the single most important and difficult aspect of valve power amplifier design. The output transformers in the 968 reflect Trilogy's huge experience and expertise in this area. Carefully selected oversize cores are employed in a configuration which keeps crucial current densities low, and coupling between the primary and secondary windings high. Their sonic footprint is vanishingly small, allowing the output stage to deliver its full potential.

The case is totally nonmagnetic to avoid magnetic coupling. Carefully selected audiophile parts are fitted throughout the signal path with silver gold loaded solder. Internal wiring features PTFE insulated silver plated copper. Selected foil capacitors are from Mundorf and precision resistors are from Welwyn. Power input is by rhodium plated Oyaide IEC. Mundorf solid copper binding posts are used to eliminate the audible mechanical resonance of more common brass.

Remote power switching is available through TASLink.
